During my junior year of high school, I started noticing that people's disdain for mathematics started at a young age. I also realized that it wasn't just that they didn't like it, but more importantly they weren't quite understanding it back then, therefore ruining math for them entirely. I wanted to change that, so I created mARTh. I came up with ways to start getting elementary aged students excited about learning math, to put a stop in the cycle of dislike. While I know you can't please every child with numbers, I still strive to make a difference in my students lives. Hoping that one day, more and more students will have an easier time understading mathematics and enjoy it at the same time.Â
Today, I have taught 200+ kids around the Grapevine-Colleyville area. It is truly a gift to see the students' faces light up when they make new connections to the content that they are learning. I'll never get over the feeling of kids calling me "Ms. Lucy." With every lesson, I not only hope to make a difference for the student, I also hope to help the teacher. Hearing the overwhelming positive feedback from the students and teachers has been such a gratifying feeling. I truly see the impact that mARTh has had on students and hope it will continue to spread.
