Today I was at Colleyville Elementary with Mrs. Rovner's 2nd grade class. The nice thing about doing lessons around the same time is that they are all pretty much working on the same thing. So yet again, they were working on 2d vs. 3d shapes. I feel like I'm officially a master on 2d vs. 3d shapes according to the standards for second grade. Anyway, started out with Polypad and, just like my other students, they absolutley loved it. We played the game again and this class was very competitive with the stickers. It was a real cut-throat situation at CES. But nevertheless, they had a great time with it.Â
We moved on to the 3d shape portion of the lesson. While I was explaining the concept of how a recrtangular prism is like a 3d rectangle, one student was really interested on how I made the 3d shape. He was like "How did you make a 3d rectangle? Do you have magic powers?!" To which I said, "You'll never know," and I winked at him. I then sent them off to create their own 3d shapes, and this class was very interesed in the pyramid shape. Just like the last class, it was really sweet to see the students' creative differences. Mrs. Rovner was really impressed with Polypad and found the app on the district's app store and decided she was going to download it on the students' iPads! Once they finished their 3d shapes, they did a little show and tell with eachother. I'm so bummed I didn't get any photos of this class but I'm glad that I was staying in the moment with them. My next lesson is at my old elementary school of Silver Lake Elementary. It will be so great to go back! :)
