I am so excited to be back at Colleyville Elementary with Mrs. Rovner's 2nd graders! I wanted to create a nice amnd simple lesson for them since they were wrapping up their unit on number line placement. Plus, it was a Friday morning and didn't want to give them anything too hectic, but as always, still fun!
Like mentioned before, they had just finished working on their number line placement unit so I created a new lesson for them! They worked on my 2nd grade number line assignment. All they have to do is look at each problem and solve the addition or subtraction problem and place their answer on the number line. Next they look for their answer on the coloring sheet and color in those spaces depending on the color of the number line for said problem. They repeat this for all problems. At the end, they have a beautiful colored picture and some nicely placed number lines.
The students really enjoyed this activity! Most of them flew through the actual number placement which indicated to me that they were total masters and I was proud of them. The thing I loved most about this activity was the fact that they coloring sheet doesn't actually make a picture, its more of an abstract art piece so the students were able to be creative when I asked them what they thought it was. Some said a keyboard, another said Tetris, and one, of course, said Minecraft. I really loved seeing their young minds at work!
I had such a great time back at CES and it was so good to meet more new students! I have a little break between my next batch of lessons, October is always super busy for me. In the mean time, I have a birthday coming up and some more school stuff. :)
